Puerto Viejo, the Mecca of cycling.

A small village on the Caribbean coast, Puerto Viejo, nestled between jungle and beach, is the perfect place for a bike getaway. From Puerto Viejo to Manzanillo, passing through Playa Cocles and Punta Uva, you can explore the stunning Caribbean beaches by bike. This mode of transportation allows you to easily take breaks and enjoy each beach, each one different from the other but sharing the common feature of crystal-clear water. Thanks to its numerous reefs, Punta Uva beach is one of the best spots for snorkeling or diving.

On your way back, you can even take a break at the Jaguar Rescue Center, an animal rescue center (for injured, lost, or orphaned animals) located in Playa Cocles. The foundation takes care of rehabilitating the animals with the goal of releasing them back into their natural habitat once they are ready. The refuge was opened in 2008 and receives hundreds of animals each year (over 800 in 2020).

Bike rentals are available throughout the area, with prices ranging from $5 to $10 for 24 hours. It’s truly a wonderful way to explore the area and experience the local lifestyle.
